Kata Certification

Kata Certifications set the standard for your implementation

TWI Institute guides your organization through a Kata training and certification process that starts with the basics of Kata, the Improvement Kata and the Coaching Kata, and sets the stage for Kata practice in your workplace.

As Mike Rother, founder of Toyota Kata, explains: “There are perhaps only three things we can and need to know with certainty: where we are, where we want to be, and by what means we should maneuver the unclear territory between here and there.”

With the careful guidance of TWI Institute instructors, the patterns of Kata practice are introduced and ingrained into your culture so your organization can begin to strive toward the desired future. Progress is sustained by developing and certifying in-house trainers who can take ownership and responsibility for the training and development process.

Choose the level that fits your organization’s size and needs

Depending on the size of your organization and, more specifically, the ideal ratio of Kata trainers to employees, your needs will vary. TWI Institute will guide your team every step of the way in designing and executing a Kata training, certification and practice plan that works for you.
Knowledge Certification
This online certificate program engages your people in learning the fundamentals of Kata and how they help take your organization to its desired future state. Starting with fundamentals of the Improvement Kata, participants learn about the elements of the Coaching Kata and gain a deep understanding of why Kata is so effective at developing a culture of employee engagement and continuous improvement.

Kata Certification
Following the classic TWI training approach, your employees will be trained by TWI Institute instructors as they complete the “learn-by-doing” course, either live or virtually, in the Essential Kata training for frontline practitioners. Your management team can also be certified in a one-day Kata Foundations and Simulation course that provides an overview of Kata practice. Finally, you can certify your people in the Driving and Coaching Improvement course, which is a combination of the other two courses.

Becoming a TWI Institute Certified Trainer
Each Kata training module follows a standard delivery approach that can be learned in the well-established TWI Train-the-Trainer format. This pattern was designed by TWI founders in order to engage the “multiplier effect” – that is, to train people who will train other people who will train groups of people to use the method. TWI Institute will certify your qualified people to teach the Kata classes, following a standard delivery model for each course and ensuring that your organization continues to reap the benefits of the programs.
