The TWI Job Instruction course teaches a method to instruct employees how to quickly learn and remember the proper way to consistently perform a procedure or task.  Leaders determine the “best practice” for a procedure or task to be performed and Job Instruction teaches this way,  preventing or correcting a previous preceptor’s variations or short cuts.  Evidence shows that by utilizing Job Instruction, entities gain the benefits of consistent training of a standard process which leads to dramatic improvements in patient experience, patient flow, reduction of LOS, and meeting DRG requirements.  Job Instruction is an efficient method to help achieve those “hard to obtain” strategic goals and benefits experienced from Job Instruction utilization include reducing training time, reducing re-education practices, fewer errors, and increased staff job satisfaction.

For example, once Job Instruction was implemented at several acute care facilities, blood culture contamination rate reduction goals were finally met and surpassed with long term sustainment.  Other examples of benefits seen through Job Instruction were reduced UTI rates, reduction of missing dose/medication delays, compliance with infection control processes, faster delivery of hot food items in food tray preparation, consistent hourly rounding, and achievement of patient requests and entity goals.
