History of the Baptist TWI Summit

What started as a “grassroots effort” by Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS, has become a highly anticipated annual networking event for health care and continuous improvement professionals. This year, TWI Institute is thrilled to partner with Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation (BMHCC) to host the 6th Annual Baptist TWI Summit.

BMHCC first hired TWI Institute in 2014 to assist with implementing their continuous improvement processes. Following the successful outcome of applying Training Within Industry (TWI) methods, the Baptist TWI Summit was created to share the benefits of TWI in health care through workshops, presentations and case studies.

The first event focused solely on examples of Job Instruction (JI) in health care, but the program has since expanded to include discussions of Job Relations (JR) and Job Methods (JM). Event attendance has also grown to include guests from across the U.S.; 140 guests attended last year’s summit, which was held virtually due to COVID-19.

The location and format have changed and evolved over the years, but the collective, invigorating passion for continuous workplace improvement in one space remains the most compelling incentive for attending.

This October, the TWI Institute, Baptist Management System (BMS) and BMS Vice President and Chief Improvement Officer Skip Steward will once again welcome team members, leaders, and guests for this special learning and sharing experience. Since the virtual format made the event accessible to a wider audience in 2020, the 2021 summit will also be held online.

The 6th Baptist TWI Summit will feature examples, case histories and presentations on how TWI can help health care organizations achieve higher levels of care, collaboration, satisfaction and safety for patients, physicians and nurses.

The TWI Institute will support the programming with insights and information, workshops and guest speakers, including TWI Institute Vice President and Senior Master Trainer Patrick Graupp and Martha Purrier, co-author with Mr. Graupp of the second edition of Getting to Standard Work in Healthcare.

Reserve your spot today to join this exciting networking opportunity. Please note, the schedule is presented in Central Standard Time.
