Overview TWI, Training Within Industry, is a dynamic program of hands-on learning and practice, teaching essential skills for supervisors, team leaders, and anyone who directs the work of others from all industries and vocations.
TWI teaches the skills of job instruction, methods improvement, and leadership. In five 2-hour sessions, supervisors not only learn a well-defined and easy-to-implement method for each skill, but bring in actual jobs from their own worksites in a “learn-by-doing” approach that is efficient and effective. Each module is presented by certified instructors using the proven TWI methodology ensuring the quality standards for each training class. To support a continuous improvement, environment workers need to develop the skills represented in these three modules. By doing so, TWI provides an immediate return on investment for companies by utilizing the productive potential of their employees. TWI in Spanish The TWI Institute has completed the translation of the Job Instruction, Job Methods and Job Relations modules into Spanish. These materials include the Trainer Delivery Manuals, Participant Guides, Pocket Cards and all training aids and materials. In so doing, the TWI Institute worked with companies and their bi-lingual trainers to edit each translation while delivering the TWI modules to their Spanish speaking employees. TWI’s rich history originated in the United States in the 1940s where it was developed to support the war effort by boosting industrial production. It was an unqualified success. During the prosperity of post-war America, the TWI program was abandoned and it soon became a faded memory. TWI was introduced in Japan during post-war rebuilding and is still in wide spread use today at Toyota and across many other industries. |
